The Must Have Toy For 2010

Choosing a Masquerade Mask

If you want to look fashionable for a ball that you need to attend, you may want to consider purchasing, or at least viewing a white masquerade mask. Attending a function, such as a ball, is something that isn’t done every day. Therefore, you would probably want to look your best while keeping yourself looking classy and elegant. There isn’t even a question that a masquerade ball mask can help you accomplish this. Yes, masquerade ball masks may come in many different colors, but a white lace masquerade masks looks particularly exquisite. There are definitely masks available for every type of budget, but some of the fancier masks can be much more expensive than the plainer ones. You will definitely want to keep your budget in mind when you consider which masquerade ball mask you will be buying. Even if your budget is quite low, you should be able to find a mask that will look nice.

When you consider purchasing one of the masquerade ball masks, you should think about whether or not you want to be holding the mask, or if you want one that stays on your face by itself. There are two headings in the toy department that are perennially present in the aisles: Star Wars and LEGO. So, is it no surprise that the LEGO 7679 set is as stunningly popular as it is. Those that want to produce their own unique LEGO Star Wars collection would certainly want to add the LEGO 7679 to the list.

Specifically, the LEGO 7679 is a small scale reproduction of the Star Wars Republic Fighter Tank. When completed, this fighter is truly spectacular to look at. In many ways, it has a more authentic look than the many “ready made” toys for sale in retail shops.

Of course, there is more to the LEGO Star Wars Republic Fighter Tank 7679 that just looking at it. Building and constructing this Republic Fighter Tank is a lot of fun and can be a rewarding experience. There are many fine parts that go into building this LEGO set. Those up for the challenge will find the finished product quite appealing. Even experienced model builders may find the construction process a lot of fun.

This hover-tank is the Republic’s newest tank to add to it's army in the Clone Wars. Lot's if armor, two laser canons, a gunner seat that can be elevated, and flick-missile launchers, this tank can change the outcome of a battle.

There are two LEGO Clone Troopers as well.  These LEGO Star Wars figures are some of the best selling LEGO minifigs because fans loving building up their clone army to recreate scenes from the Star Wars films.  It is not unheard of for these particular mini figures to sell for as much as two dollars a piece.

Star Wars has brought many iconic toys and models to the public market. LEGO has also done the same over the years. The fusion of both in the form of the LEGO Star Wars Republic Fighter 7679 is definitely something avid collectors will enjoy.

How Much Do You Know About Rubik’s Puzzles?

In the summer of 2009, Rubik released their latest mind bending puzzle onto toy shop shelves. It is called the Rubiks 360.  Tipped as a top Christmas toy it soon sold out. The popularity is similar to that found by its hugely successful predecessor the Rubik’s Cube. When it came onto the market about 30 years ago it sold faster than any other toy ever. In the current global economic crisis, a popular toy by a well respected toy brand should be top of your list when buying gifts. If it is, make sure you really know what you are buying by reading the following information on the Rubik games.

Rubik 360
Rubik may have started world puzzle domination with a cube but the latest toy is spherical. It comprises of six balls, each of a different colour, and three see-through spheres inside each other. To solve the puzzle you have to move the balls through some holes in the inside spheres and then make sure they end up in a matching coloured dome on the outside edge.

The main problem you will encounter when tackling the Rubic 360 is gravity. This is because the inside spheres have a weight on them, opposite to the hole where the balls are supposed to drop through. So whenever you twist and turn the sphere you find that the holes are pointing upwards and the balls are at the bottom. To ensure the puzzle is not impossible, the spheres rotate on different axes. This means that with some gentle coaxing and balance you should be able to guide the balls to their goal.

Rubik’s Cubes
Everyone has heard of the original 3x3 Rubik’s Cube but if you are after a popular puzzle but do not like the sound of the Rubik 360, why not have a look at the 4x4 Cube. Obviously it is bigger than the original Cube and as such is much harder to complete. There are more coloured squares to line up properly and the mechanism is more complex and less stable to manoeuvre. It is a step up from the 3x3 Cube and should not be tried until you are happy with completing the first one. The way to solve this bigger Cube has moved on because there is no longer a fixed square in the centre of each face to keep you anchored.

A few years ago, a couple of my in-laws came up with an idea that has become sort of popular and is now a part of our Christmas gift giving routine.  Because we have a rather large family, we do a gift exchange where people pick a piece of paper some time in November.  Whoever you pick is who you buy for at Christmas.  In addition to those gifts however, there is one other Christmas present that gets given every year.  It is sort of a "booby prize".  We have a Leg Lamp that gets passed from one family to the next every year.  Who it gets given to is up to the current owner.  The conditions are that it must be displayed somewhere prominent in the new owner's house for the entire year.  No exceptions.  It is then passed on to its new owner at the next Christmas celebration.

What is a Leg Lamp?

One of my all time favorite movies, Christmas or otherwise, is A Christmas Story.  It is the tale of a ten year old boy, Ralphie,  and his quest for the perfect Christmas present, an official Red Ryder Two Hundred Shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time!

There were so many good parts in that movie, that it would be hard to list them all.  It also just wouldn't do it justice.  If you haven't seen it, rent it this holiday season.  One of the most memorable parts of the movie was when Ralphie's dad received a valuable, fragile gift in the mail.  It was a lamp in the shape of a leg.  It was also a major award that he was extremely proud to have won.

You can actually buy a full size working replica of the leg lamp now.  I can't think of anything better for the guy who has everything.  Think of the conversations that could start if you put it in your front window like Ralphie's dad did!

If you have not seen the movie yet, it is a definite must see.  It is one of those movies that can be watched year after year without getting tired of it.  I'm sure I've seen it myself at least twenty or thirty times since it was released in 1983.  It is really hard to believe it has been around for twenty six years already.  I strongly recommend making a holiday tradition out of watching it with the family.

You can pick up the movie on Amazon too.  It would make a great stocking stuffer!

cars workbenchLet me just say that as a parent, it can be a tough call when you have a child (or children) with just one special gift in mind.  Sure, sometimes it works out great and all you have to do is head out to the stores and pick up "just the right gift".  Other times though, it is a little bit more challenging.

The challenge comes when you cannot find that special gift available anywhere.  We recently went through this with the Cars Pit Stop Workbench.  Our son has not really asked specifically for a whole lot of items.  This was the big one that he really wanted.  What was nuts about the whole thing was that we saw 20 of them at Big Lots the day he mentioned wanting it.  He saw the boxes stacked up and just went nuts for the thing.  We couldn't buy it then, because we were thinking of it as a Christmas present.  The next day we learned that every one was sold out right after we left the store.  Not only that, we could not find it at any stores anywhere near us.

I decided to check online and almost had one on Amazon.  It said there was one left.  I went to get my credit card, and by the time I clicked to order, it was gone.  Unbelievable timing.  You can click here to check Amazon now.

The place I finally did find it was eBay.  As a frequent seller there, I guess I should have thought of it first, but I guess I just wasn't thinking.  What surprised me was that they had it at the same price as it had been on sale in the stores around us ($39.99).  Yes, I had to pay shipping, but it was worth it.  I bought it from a top seller with a feedback score of over 99% and it went without a hitch.

We liked this because of the drawers.  We have issues around here with people losing small items and the drawers are the perfect solution.  Sure, the other features are cool, but being able to find the little tools and other items we have collected is even cooler.  Just a note, this item has small parts and isn't for kids under three.

Where to Look for Great Gift Ideas

giftboxIf you have ever wondered where to get good gift ideas, the answer might be closer than you think.  One of the easiest ways I've found for getting great ideas is to simply go to a large shopping site like Amazon or eBay and then start digging down through the categories.  It is amazing how seeing the images of items for sale can spark your creative mind.

Start out by thinking about what the person you are shopping for likes.  If they like dolls, enter that into the search box and see what comes back.  Now, take a look around the page and see if the site offers you a way to get more specific with your search.  Both of the sites mentioned above make it very convenient for visitors to explore any category very thoroughly.  Keep on following the trail that is set out and you may be surprised to find that you are finding things you never would have thought of on your own.  Sometimes these more obscure finds make the best gifts.  The kind of present that makes people wonder how you ever had such a creative idea!
