If you enjoy shopping for bargains, you might want to avoid the main attraction shown below. Compared to the other lamps shown, it is just a tad on the pricey side. I wonder how long it takes someone who buys a lamp this expensive to mention the price when someone comes over to visit? I could be wrong about that though. If you just showed up here, don't panic, most of the showcased items don't cost nearly this much. I just thought it would be fun to show off a few of the more expensive pieces of merchandise I have found while shopping online.

I've got to say that you would think the 17 bulbs required for this might be included in the purchase price, but what's another twenty bucks for bulbs if you are outfitting your house with this beautiful stained glass lamp? Keeping with my fun theme of really expensive gift ideas for people who don't worry about how much they spend, this is very lovely tiffany style lamp that would look great in just about any home. Just don't drop it, and be sure to enforce the "no baseball in the house" rule once you have it mounted.

Japanese Shoji Lantern Floor Lamp

If you are looking for an interesting alternative to a traditional nightstand or end table, you might want to check out this relatively inexpensive piece of furniture. These Japanese Shoji lanterns are available in a variety of finishes and sizes. Some even include features like the ability to dim the light to match the mood or setting.

These shoji lights are based on the traditional Japanese screens that are used to provide privacy while still allowing light to pass though. The idea is to use a softly glowing light source to brighten up dark interior spaces with a a peaceful, diffuse light. This is a nice alternative to the blazing electric glow provided by more traditional light sources.

A few years ago, a couple of my in-laws came up with an idea that has become sort of popular and is now a part of our Christmas gift giving routine. Because we have a rather large family, we do a gift exchange where people pick a piece of paper some time in November. Whoever you pick is who you buy for at Christmas. In addition to those gifts however, there is one other Christmas present that gets given every year. It is sort of a "booby prize". We have a Leg Lamp that gets passed from one family to the next every year. Who it gets given to is up to the current owner. The conditions are that it must be displayed somewhere prominent in the new owner's house for the entire year. No exceptions. It is then passed on to its new owner at the next Christmas celebration.

What is a Leg Lamp?

One of my all time favorite movies, Christmas or otherwise, is A Christmas Story. It is the tale of a ten year old boy, Ralphie, and his quest for the perfect Christmas present, an official Red Ryder Two Hundred Shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time!

There were so many good parts in that movie, that it would be hard to list them all. It also just wouldn't do it justice. If you haven't seen it, rent it this holiday season. One of the most memorable parts of the movie was when Ralphie's dad received a valuable, fragile gift in the mail. It was a lamp in the shape of a leg. It was also a major award that he was extremely proud to have won.

You can actually buy a full size working replica of the leg lamp now. I can't think of anything better for the guy who has everything. Think of the conversations that could start if you put it in your front window like Ralphie's dad did!

A Christmas Story

If you have not seen the movie yet, it is a definite must see. It is one of those movies that can be watched year after year without getting tired of it. I'm sure I've seen it myself at least twenty or thirty times since it was released in 1983. It is really hard to believe it has been around for twenty six years already. I strongly recommend making a holiday tradition out of watching it with the family.

You can pick up the movie on Amazon too. It would make a great stocking stuffer!
